The Global Health group of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology is looking for a Project Coordinator to work on a clinical trial generating evidence on mass-drug administration (MDA) of azithromycin for reducing mortality of young children in Mali. The position will be filled for a fixed-term period of approx. two years.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET) is committed to high quality research and education in the fields of biomedical engineering, biotechnology, medicine, and health technology. We conduct basic, applied, clinical, and translational research in collaboration with Tampere University Hospital (TAYS). Our existing research areas in health research include biomedical engineering fields from biomaterials and microtechnologies to health data science, cell and molecular biology, with applications in areas such as cancer, cardiovascular and celiac diseases, immunology, and ophthalmology.

The Global Health group is an international, multidisciplinary research group that aims to improve maternal and child health globally. We are part of Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology. Many of our current research projects are formed around clinical trials, but with significant biomedical, public health, and social science components. By combining the various approaches, we wish to produce new knowledge on molecular, environmental and social events leading to health, test new interventions to prevent or manage certain conditions, and provide evidence on the social, economic, and political acceptability of possible interventions.

Job description

This is a career opportunity for a candidate with experience and interest in global health research. The Project Coordinator will work in close collaboration with international, multidisciplinary team of researchers conducting the Mali trial and other research projects. They will support day-to-day aspects of various phases of research projects. The work will involve a significant level of administration as well as internal and external communications, operations support, and general coordination activities with the focus on reporting, budget monitoring, procurement and travel arrangements.

Requirements 

We are looking for candidates with an applicable university degree in health sciences or a related field. We appreciate competence in computer literacy. Good communication skills and fluency in English (both written and oral) are considered important for the position. Ability to communicate in French is considered as an advantage. We value ability to comfortably work both independentely, and with other team members. Flexibility and the capability to meet tight deadlines are important.

The position will include some occasional traveling to different events related to the project. 

Finally, knowledge of research-grant reporting, university administration and reserach sectors; experience in planning and delivering meetings, conferences and events as well as experience in administrative tasks are considered as an advantage.

We offer 

The position will be filled for a fixed-term period, until 30th September, 2025. The planned starting date is as soon as possible or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The position of Project Coordinator is placed on the job requirement level 6-7  (the demand level chart for the other staff) of the salary system of Finnish Universities. In addition, the employee will receive a performance-based salary. The total salary of a Project Coordinator is approximately between 2500-3000 € depending on the background and experience of the candidate.
