The Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences is looking for 1-5 Research Assistants to work in the software engineering research group in Tampere University this summer. 

Job description

Possible work tasks include: 

• Research projects that bridge cloud, edge and IoT. We develop systems where software can at any of these, be installed reliably and even move flexibly.
• Research project to build data-collection and sharing infrastructure for energy systems research.
• Research projects utilizing generative AI for software engineering tasks
• Teaching support. The interns will build automatic tests, course infrastructure and pilot technologies to be used in the course.

We do not expect previous research experience, but we assume that you have already acquired basic software technology skills. We also appreciate enthusiasm to work hard and learn more. The topics are also suitable for BSc and/or MSc thesis works based on further discussion. You will be supervised by our researchers and staff who are committed to give you a great experience!

Requirements

Minimum formal requirement is a study right in a university in Computer Science or Information Technology field. Studies related to software development are assumed. We value good study records at Tampere University, or in another well-established university, and ability and high motivation for working with us in one or more of the aforementioned areas. We require capability to communicate in English.

We appreciate the following:

• Programming skills
• Basic knowledge about cloud-systems
• Reasonable hands-on skills on command-line Linux
• Some knowledge about data engineering and analysis

We offer

The positions will be full-time, and they will be filled for a 3-month fixed-term period, starting preferably in June. The starting date is negotiable and depends on the candidate’s availability and project in question. A trial period applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. The position of Research Assistant is placed on the job demand level 1 (the demand level chart for the teaching and research staff). In addition, employees will receive a performance-based salary which for Research Assistants is based on their study credits. Salary for a Research Assistant is around 2100€ – 2400€ depending on completed study credits.
